The Whole Bite Club visit is the heart of the program — the whole unit is built around it. In this lesson, students take part in the visit: one coordinated session delivered by the Oral Health Home team. The visit has two parts: a 30-minute interactive whole-class lesson, followed by small-group sessions of four to six children (about 15 minutes each) where students practise brushing and flossing and take part in an individual oral health check. Lessons 3 to 5 build directly on what students experience during the visit, so the visit needs to be booked for the unit to run. To arrange your visit, contact Oral Health Home.
Learning intention
In this lesson, we will meet an oral health team, learn how our whole mouth works, and find out how the team helps us keep our teeth healthy.

That professional application of a remineralising varnish is a clinical decision an oral health professional makes, rather than a routine applied to a whole population without one. It is not cited for what the Whole Bite Club visit does — painted on every child whose family said yes — which is the clinicians' own account of their own program and is registered as that.

Getting ready for the visit
Ask the guiding question: Who helps us look after our teeth? Record responses.
Explain that oral health therapists are trained to check and clean our teeth and to teach us how to look after our whole mouth.
Let students know the Oral Health Home team will visit the class.

Body
Part 1 — Whole-class session (about 30 minutes)
The Oral Health Home team lead an interactive lesson using puppets, tooth models and active participation.
Students discover what different teeth do and why they matter, explore food textures and how we bite and chew, and learn how chewing works the muscles we use for eating and talking.
The focus is on understanding the whole mouth — knowing why we care for our teeth is what turns a lesson into a habit.
Part 2 — Small-group session (four to six children, about 15 minutes each)
Children move into calm, supportive small groups to work at their own pace.
Groups take part in dental-themed play and guided toothbrushing and flossing practice.
Each child has an individual oral health check and, where appropriate and with family consent, a fluoride application to help protect the teeth. Families receive full information and provide consent beforehand.
Every checked child receives a free colourful take-home toothbrush pack.
Worksheet: My visit
Students draw and write about the visit — what they saw, what they learned, and one thing they will do to look after their teeth.
Conclusion
Recap the visit and unpack any new vocabulary.
Ask students to share one thing they learned and one thing that surprised them.
