What we are aiming at

We build this site to a standard called WCAG 2.2, at level AA. It is the standard Australian government services use.

A list of rules. They make a web site work for everyone.

Screen reader

Software that reads a page out loud for someone who cannot see it.

What the site does

• You can use the whole site with a keyboard. Nothing needs a mouse.
• Every game can be played with a keyboard as well as by touch.
• Buttons and tap targets on the kids pages are big, so small hands can hit them.
• You can ask the site to read the words out loud.
• If you have asked your device to stop things moving, nothing on the site moves.
• We write for parents at a Year 5 reading level or easier.
• Text is dark on a light background, so it stays easy to read.
• Pictures that mean something have words that say the same thing.

How we check

• Every page is checked by a tool on every change.
• Every page is checked with a keyboard, on a phone and on a laptop.
• We measure the colours to make sure the text is dark enough.
• We check that you can always see where the keyboard is.
• We check that nothing moves if you asked your device to hold things still.

What is not right yet

• This site is still being built. No school has used it for a visit yet.
• The voice that reads pages out loud is made by a computer. Some words come out wrong.
• Some pictures, videos and forms are stand-ins. The real ones are still being made.
• Videos have no captions yet, because the videos are not made yet.
• No one who uses a screen reader has tested every page yet.
